Immorality in the White House

micadelic completely fucked up and said:

And while I’m here… Bush just commuted Scooter Libby’s sentence. Good for him, that’s the first good thing he’s done in a while by my reckoning. That’s a little “amnesty” that I can live with.

First of all, let me take on the “Clinton pardoned Marc Rich” bullshit. When Clinton did that, I was appalled. The Right Wing, of course, went completely nuts. No one though that was a good thing. Let me repeat: I was appalled. I thought it was a horrible decision by Clinton and shady as hell. So, apparently, did the Republicans.

Now we have a similar situation AND MY VIEWS HAVE NOT CHANGED. I think that Bush’s interference with this case is absolutely appalling and shady as hell. The White House (read: Cheney) basically said: “Go on boys, lie your ass off and if you get caught we’ll just pardon you!”.

So, the Righties should be justifiably appalled at this situation, right? I mean, law and order and high crimes and all of that, right?

Fuck no. Instead they defend Bush, claim that the crime is minor and the punishment too harsh. Yet, they impeached Clinton for the same thing.

This is my core point: the Right are a bunch of pussies who flip-flop on the issues so that they are always right, no matter what, and the Left always wrong. Impeachable if it is our guy, no big deal if it is their guy.

What a bunch of ridiculous crap. There is exactly one reason why Bush interfered on Libby’s behalf — cronyism.

Had to add this, Libby was also “impeached” which is the equivalent of an indictment. Not only that, he was convicted, and the conviction still stands as well as a hefty fine, the loss of his job, etc. So I don’t know how you conclude “Impeachable if it is our guy, no big deal if it is their guy.” Your argument kind of falls apart.

I guess I can conclude by following your logic that you think Clinton should have served 30 months behind bars since his offense was equivalent to Libby’s.

Don’t know how I “completely fucked up” by expressing an opinion but that’s typical of the way you all argue. I keep forgetting that you’re always right though so there really is no need to debate, is there?

Anyway, all I’ve got to say is… ha ha.

Judge dismisses Plame’s lawsuit in CIA leak case

I know this was just dismissed for jurisdictional reasons at this point but this lawsuit will never go anywhere. Plame and her opportunistic, publicity seeking, political hack scumbag of a husband will eventually slink away with their tails between their legs and crawl back under the slimy rock they crawled out from under.

I do think Bush is a moron but I believe he did the right thing in commuting Libby’s sentence. 30 months in prison for his offense was not justice and it was driven by politics and an over-reaching, over-zealous prosecutor. Last I checked, Clinton received no time in jail either. Also remember, Marc Rich was a freaking fugitive from justice hiding in Sweden, or Switzerland or somewhere when he was completely pardoned. Scooter Libby was ready to take his lumps and is still guilty of a felony and is paying his debt to society through fines, loss of his job and livelihood, etc. If you think he deserves more punishment than that, I believe you are unreasonable and just out to get scalps from the administration.

Oh yeah, since it works so well for you, I’ll just declare myself right and you all wrong so we can stop wasting each other’s time with good, honest debate.
